KD9TAW · Amateur Radio Software

Open-source tools for weak-signal HF and off-grid comms.

I build amateur radio software — next-generation weak-signal digital modes and chat-first HF messaging. Free, open, and made for operators who push the edge of the band.

One signal core, three tools

The FT1 ecosystem

A next-generation weak-signal mode, a drop-in WSJT-X integration, and a chat-first HF app — all sharing the same DSP foundation. Start with the reference mode and follow it all the way to the field.

  1. 01 FT1 A coherent weak-signal mode that brings cellular-network techniques to HF.
  2. 02 WSJT-X (FT1) A WSJT-X fork that brings the FT1 weak-signal mode to a tool you already know.
  3. 03 Tempo Off-grid HF text messaging at the speed of conversation.

Operator

Software developer, DXpeditioner, DX chaser.

I'm KD9TAW — I write software for a living and chase weak signals for fun. I designed the FT1 and DX1 waveforms behind Tempo, and these tools come out of real time on the radio: pursuing DX, joining DXpeditions, and pushing what's possible on the HF bands.
